“Always start a painting with 0% expectations and
100% kindness for yourself.”

Welcome to Whole Artist Mastery. I’m so glad you’re here!

Several stages mark my 40 years as a professional artist.  When I started to teach about 20 years along the way, I was often asked “How do you do what you do?” from artists like you who were seeking clarity about their expression and the technical knowledge to convey what they felt and thought, through paint.

Answering this question many times led to my creating The Four Phases of making abstract art, which is at the heart of my Whole Artist Mastery philosophy.

Whole Artist Mastery is about owning your authentic voice, making compelling work and being the artist you want to be.

Delve into who you are and what inspires you!

It gives me great joy to be a nurturer of the artistic spirit and your guide to creating Whole Art through your particular use of color, line, value, shape and texture in your medium of choice.

Are you searching for your voice AND technical skill that’s unique to your work?

Then I invite you to peruse what Whole Artist Mastery has to offer!

You are more of a sage with your keen ability to instill transformation in others through your wisdom and experience. You go way beyond what any normal teacher could ever do, in my opinion.

The Whole Artist Mastery Philosophy

Simply put, Whole Artists Mastery is about bringing the unique parts of you together in your artwork through your personal expression of color, mark, shape and texture combined with strong composition and technique to engage your viewer’s heart and mind.

When these three aspects are fully aligned, we have an indescribable experience that can only be summed up with “Wow! I don’t know why I like this piece, I just do!”

This is what I call Whole Art.

It’s whole because the emotional, intellectual, and physical elements of a piece are fully integrated and our experience of the work transcends each respective element. It mirrors our heart, head, and hand (Thank you Brené Brown for these brilliant three words!) and reflects who we are and shares that energy with our viewers.

Making and sharing Whole Art kindles Whole Energy.

Kindling whole energy contributes to building connection and resiliency in an increasingly fractured world.

Would you like to make Whole Art?

I love guiding artists like you in finding your true self expression and how your unique voice is given form through your particular use of color and composition. Owning your authentic voice and possessing the technical skill to make compelling work is key to being the confident artist you want to be.
